SheMate's protocols were designed by our founder — a clinically trained school social worker with a specialization in cognitive behavioral therapy and over fifteen years of experience.
Every SheMate session — group or individual — includes a trained facilitator and at least one SheMate mentor. There is no configuration of our program in which a single adult meets alone with a young athlete.
If a mentor or facilitator encounters something during a session that raises a safety concern, it moves through a defined protocol — immediately, and to your designated contact. This is the one thing an athlete does not control, and we tell athletes that plainly at the start of every series: what she writes stays hers, unless someone is worried about her safety.
SheMate does not diagnose, treat, or provide therapy. There is no clinical intake and no treatment plan. Our Pillars are developmental — identity, teamwork, sport psychology, and wellness — and our facilitators are trained to recognize when something belongs with a professional and to route it there. Saying this clearly is deliberate: it means SheMate can sit inside your athletic program without a clinical approval chain.
Ask us anything. We'd rather over-explain this than under-explain it.
